It struck me that finding someone to help you with your personal finances and finding a partner via a dating app have a few similarities.

On one side there is you – the person with the money or money issue, and how it impacts on you and your family’s life. You are the person looking for a partner. You’re looking for someone you can rely on; someone you choose to go to for your financial advice or to solve your financial problem. On the other hand there’s that someone that simply wants to get “transactional” with you whether you realise it or not.

Not your type

Before you swipe left or right, decide on what you are looking for. “Transactional” is absolutely good enough, if that’s what you want. But if you’re looking for something more, looking in the same old places just won’t cut it any longer.

Typically, interests should be aligned, expectations must be clear, and desires should be obvious.

Accept the status quo or opt for something different. You have choices.
